The Rising 1916  / 2016     by Francis O’ Toole

A Nation Awaken

A new call is heard

Men, Women,   young and old

Commanded to stand guard

From rooftops to sheds

Flags blend with the  wind.People wear costume for the event at St Stephen's Green in Dublin

North and South arise

Green, white and gold will shine bright

For   those who want to unite

The   white glow will outdo the darkness of tyranny

To gain freedom

A price will be paid

Men, women and even children

Sacrifice   all

Easter Monday 1916

The first shot at one fifteen

A woman wails in sorrow

Her baby covered in blood

A Priest on bended knee

Prays the last rites

Innocence   is lost

Victory will be in freedom

A Nation is conceived

Striving  for an ideal or ideology

Brother may fight against brother

To be rid of tyranny

In the End

Victory is achieved

For the just man will be happy

The just man will prove

Out of darkness comes the light

Standing   guard by the  flag

Will salute the freshness

Remember the brokenness

A Nation is born

A new proclamation cries out

The  solider will stand erect

Last post echoes across the ages

Comrades embark on a new destiny

Journey to a  life of eternity

Now the gaols are empty

The ghosts wonder till a new age is born

They look for freedom, equality, justice and  peace .

Now 2016

We are given a new call

Stand by the proclamation

Fight for the rights of all

Let each man, woman and child be cherished as an equal

On our land

Artist, musicians, scholars and   poets

For each person has a story to tell

Allow them love and peaceImage result for children with irish flag

Allow creativity, imagination, awe and wonder

New Ireland Inside Out.
