A strong emphasis on education will form part of the British royal visit to Ireland next week.

Further details of the visit by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have been announced, including visits to a Galway national school, Sligo IT and a performance at the Druid Theatre.

Charles and Camilla will visit Galway next Tuesday, kicking off their four-day trip to Ireland.

While they will begin their day jointly with an event at NUI, Galway, they will then hold separate engagements in the city.

While Prince Charles visits the Marine Institute and the Burren, the Duchess of Cornwall will pay a visit to Claddagh National School in Galway.

There she will meet students taking part in the Suas literacy support programme before joining a school assembly.

Following the visit, Camilla will attend a brief performance and reception at the Druid theatre to mark the 40th anniversary of Druid.

She will then attend an event celebrating regional food and drink from the Wild Atlantic Way at the House Hotel in the city.

That evening the royal couple will jointly attend a private dinner with President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina at Lough Cutra Castle.

The next day, Charles and Camilla will travel to Sligo for a series of events, including a civic reception and viewing of the Niland Art Collection at the contemporary arts centre, the Model.

Prior to a visit to Drumcliffe Church for a peace and reconciliation service and a visit to Yeats’s grave, Prince Charles will visit the Sligo Institute of Technology.

The couple will then visit Mullaghmore, before ending their visit to Sligo with a visit to the Sligo Races.

The couple then move on to Northern Ireland for two more days of events, including Charles meeting community organisations at East Belfast Community Development Association, and Camilla attending a reception for supporters of The Big Lunch, of which she is patron, and visiting Ballyhackamore Credit Union.
