Agriculture, Engineering and Architecture

Posted by Francis O' Toole on March 11, 2014

First preference application numbers for courses in AgricultureEngineering and Architecture have risen sharply, according to preliminary CAO information.

Student interest in Science and Business continues to grow, but demand for subjects related to the BuiltEnvironment has rocketed, indicating renewed confidence in the Building and Construction Sector.

The CAO data relates to applications received by February 1st. More than 73,000 applications had been received this year, up by about 2,000 on 2013 numbers.

Writing in the Irish Times this weekend, Dick Ahlstrom says the details suggest that students and their parents are responding to what they see in the media and hear on the street when it comes to career choices. Gone is the property bust, and instead there is fresh confidence in subjects linked to property and development.
